BATTLE 2012: HORIZONTAL VERTIGO
VS RECORD PROJECTION by John Williams
at Postmasters Gallery, New York City, August 8, 2012
“Horizontal Vertigo” is a two-screen video and sound performance made with the help of prepared, live-image-rigged turntables, marked paper & fabric cutouts and sound.
I continuously adjust two hi-contrast, black and white live-feed projections into a series of transient forms and images that destroy or build on one another while the accumulation of cutouts on records redirects the phonographs’ needles and recompose the sound. The resulting effect is a disquieting image of it's own temperament and mood, feeding off the atmosphere of the location, my own mishaps and corrections and the attention of audience.
